Vale of York Itinerary

Sutton Bank - Vale of York ItinerarySpend some time in the morning exploring the village of Kilburn – see the famous white horse carved into the hillside above the village and visit the Mouseman Visitor Centre, located in the beautifully restored village joiner’s shop. Learn about Robert Thompson – the village wheelwright who became the world famous Mouseman of Kilburn - and watch the craftsmen at work.

Refreshments are available at the T Café in the Mouseman Visitor Centre. Then visit Sutton Park Stately Home and Gardens, the family home of Sir Reginald and Lady Sheffield, which contains beautiful 18th Century furniture, paintings and an important collection of porcelain. Lunch can be taken at the tearooms at Sutton Park. In the afternoon visit Beningbrough Hall and Gardens, a National Trust property built in 1716, which contains one of the most impressive baroque interiors in England.  Refreshments are available in the tearooms at Beningbrough Hall.

A diversion can be made to Sutton Bank National Park Centre to enable people to take a short walk to the top of the White Horse to take in the scenery voted ‘Best View in North Yorkshire’ by BBC North Yorkshire viewers, wander round the exhibitions and have refreshments and cakes at the tea room.
