October Half-Term Holidays - Halloween - Bonfire Night

Autumn has arrived and October Half-Term is full of things to do across Ryedale, North Yorkshire.

Falling once again towards the end of October (w/c Monday 24th), both residents and visitors to Ryedale will be spoilt for choice over October half-term with Halloween and local Bonfire Night dispays taking place in the same week! With this in mind, we've put together an easy-to-digest guide to what's on this during half-term.

Halloween at Flamingo Land - 22nd - 30th October
We’re keen for you to get the most out of nine days dedicated to fiendish family fun. So, we hope our fabulous 2-for-1-admission offer will make your visit even more enjoyable. Get one free entry with one full paying adult as long as at least one of you is dressed in full Halloween fancy dress costume.
Something For Everyone…

In addition to our sensational theme park and award-winning zoo, there are a whole host of themed events, eerie-sistible Halloween menus at the Mansion House & Tea Rooms, Coach House Country Pub and Metropolis Bar & Grill, plus tricks and treats for you to enjoy each and every day. Younger guests can hop aboard for a spooky indoor train ride down at Mischief Mansion or watch as some of our fantastic animals encounter a Halloween pumpkin, some for the very first time. Alternatively, slither on over to our Education Centre and meet some truly scary creatures or pick up a free Halloween Zoo Trail sheet! Until 5:30pm each day, the fearless are invited to experience a truly unique sensation - A twilight ride on Hero, our truly breathtaking rollercoaster. Then, at 5:45pm on All Hallows Eve (Saturday 31st October), marvel at our spooktacular ten-minute firework finale from Plaza Square, accompanied by haunting music!

Autumn Colour Challenge at Scampston Walled Garden - 22nd - 30th October
Pick up one of our colour Treasure Hunts from the Ticket Office and see if you can find all the different things on the list. A prize awaits if you can! 10am - 4pm daily, Standard admission fees apply, plus £2 to take part in the challenge.  On Friday 28th October there will be Autumnal Crafts for the whole family in the Conservatory. Be inspired by the beautiful colours in the garden and get creative! The event will run from 11am - 3pm. 

Haunted Happenings, Nunnington Hall - 25th October – 30th October 
Are you brave enough to follow the haunted trail and discover what really happened one night at Nunnington Hall? On 29 & 30 October the Hall sees a return of their Ghoulish ghost tours at 12pm, 2pm, 3pm. Swoop by and join one of our ghoulish ghost tours to hear the haunted tales of Nunnington's past. Normal admission prices apply.  On Sunday 30th join the Hex factor parade at 2.30pm, dress in your spookiest outfit and join other little monsters for the Hex factor parade. Normal admission prices apply.

October Half Term Crafts at Ryedale Folk Museum - Tuesday 26th 
Have a go at making your own Victorian inspired toys including peg dolls and spinning tops - 11am - 3.30pm

Fear in the Forest at Dalby Forest - 29th October
Wrap up warm for what will be one of your scariest nights in Dalby Forest! Take a tour with one of our guides and discover the untold stories that lie in the Great Yorkshire Forest performed by Lady Lumley's School! With live bats, terrifying tombola and creepy crafts also at the Visitor Centre, there is something for everyone! The overall event runs from 5:30pm - 8:30pm. This includes selecting a specific time to visit the main feature - a half-mile trail through the forest (trail element takes approximately 40-45 minutes). Other activities are included in the ticket price. The terrifying tombola is not included in the ticket price and is on a pay per play basis. Parking is included in your ticket and is free for event attendees.

Spooky Disco from 9pm, Fancy Dress, prizes for scariest costume.

Pickering Ghost Hunt
- Monday 24th, Wednesday 26th, Thursday 27th, Friday 28th at 7pm, Saturday 29th October 6pm & 8pm. Meet by the river opposite Pickering Library.

Bonfire Night and Firework Displays
If you're on the look out for bonfires and firework displays the venues below are all holding displays:

Kaboom at Castle HowardKaboom at Castle Howard - Saturday 29th October
North Yorkshire's biggest firework spectacular returns to Castle Howard. Set against the magnificent illuminated backdrop of the house, Kaboom's impressive display will fill the sky with colour and reflect in the mirror like Great Lake. There'll be a whole evening of entertainment with live music and colourful characters on the stage hosted by Minster FM along with a carnival of fire jugglers, neon jugglers and A A Sparkler Park for families will keep the little ones entertained along with soft play, bouncy castle, balloon modelling, magic and juggling for the very young. For the more adventurous take a ride on the traditional 'fright night' funfair complete with fairground favourites like dodgems and waltzers A food village will provide a range of taste sensations, including rotisserie chicken, hog roast, pizza's, Yorkshire puddings, crepes, burgers, hot dogs, jacket potatoes, fish & chips, vegetarian & vegan dishes plus speciality coffees, hot chocolate and cupcakes. Straight after the fireworks, there will be an outdoor cinema experience as we show a blockbuster movie on the big screen (to be announced). Ham & Cheese Inn, Scagglethorpe, Malton - Saturday 5th November
Free entry, bonfire from 7pm, fireworks from 8pm.
Food and hot drinks served, and live music will be provided by the band Juri Juices at 9pm.

Helmsley - Recreation Ground - Saturday 5th November
Fireworks to music, raffle on night to be lucky person to set off display, refreshments available, 6pm gates open, 6.30pm fire lit, 7pm fireworks. £5 ticket on gate. Under 5s free.

Leavening - Preston Hill - Saturday 5th November
6.00pm start – bonfire and fireworks at 6.30pm. Free entry – collection of donations on exit. Food and refreshments available. (In field to left of Wold Hill)

Pickering Firework Spectacular - Recreation Club - 5th November
Gates open 5.30pm. Firework display at 7.30pm. Freshly cooked food will be available including Hog Roast and Fish & Chips.Admission. £5.00 for adults. £3.00 for children under 12. Tickets available at The Rec' Club or Dunning's Butchers.

Stone Trough Inn - Kirkham Abbey - 5th November
In aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, free display from 6pm. Large bonfire, hog roast and hot drinks available.
